To the Judges of Research Papers at Sprachfest

A last minute change was made to the critique sheet that you are about to fill out. Please pay attention to the types of sources the students are allowed. This was added only 2 weeks before contest, and it's possible that teachers and/or students will not have noted the change in time. Please DO NOT penalize them for not adhering to these new rules, HOWEVER, please make a note on their critique sheets that they will need to make changes before State to adhere to the new rules. Hopefully, this will not be a problem, especially with your top placers!! Thank you so much for your time and effort in evaluating these students' papers.

In addition to having a lot of fun (!), you can get German Club points and “Additional Project” credit (100 as a daily
grade) for competing at Houstonfest. German Club points: 1 point for each event in which you actually compete
(except for folk dance and play, which are worth 2 points each because of the intensive preparation involved), plus an
additional point for each event in which you place in the top five (including folk dance and play).

Additional Projects:
You can get credit for one project by doing any three of the following “Category I” events: culture test, directed dialogue, extemporaneous speaking, grammar test, listening comprehension test, poetry reading, prose reading, reading comprehension test, scavenger hunt, sight reading, spelling test, vocabulary test. You can get credit for one project by doing any two of the following “Category II” events: chorus, classical ensemble, club album (secretary-historians only), doll costume (done alone), duet acting, folk dance, gingerbread house (maximum of 4 per team), needlework (done alone),

Pass auf! (must actually get into a game to get credit), photo essay (maximum of 2 per team), play, poetry memory, polka band, poster design (done alone), prose memory, puppet show, research paper (done alone), skit, T-shirt design (maximum of 2 per team), vocal solo. Or, you can become a “Houstonfest Superstar,” for which you receive two Additional Projects and a 100 as a major grade for the 3rd nine weeks, by doing the following: three events from Category I and three events from Category II (one of which must be chorus, duet acting, folk dance, play, polka band, puppet show, research paper, or skit).

To get credit for any event, you will have to complete a checklist of requirements for that event. The checklist contains
various milestones that will have to be completed by a given date. Failure to follow the checklist will mean no additionalproject credit and no German Club points.
