George Dullnig was born
in 1846. He lived in Zlatting, Austria before he moved to Texas in 1860.
He had four brothers, all of which continued his buisness. He came to Texas
at a young age with his family. His father wanted to move because he wanted
to make a new life. In 1865, at the age of 19, George married Frances Werner.
They had 18 children, 14 of which lived to be adults.
In 1869, George's business life was successful, and with the help of his two older brothers, he founded the George Dullnig Company, which was a wholesale and retail grocery store. This business was more successful than George thought, and he was thrilled. "He is known throughout the lands of Texas as the wholesaler of groceries". This building had the first elevator in Texas. Another big profit maker for George was in 1886 when he was looking for water, he found the first oil in Texas. He was a great businessman and lived a successful life.
George Dulling was the owner of the San Antonio and Gulf Railroad. In 1905, he consolidated with the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway Company. It was chartered on March 31, 1897. It was created to acquire the San Antonio and Gulf Shore Railway Company. It is not still in business today.
