Wenzel Friedrich was born on July 2, 1827, in Gruenthal, Bohemia. He came to San Antonio in 1853 to become a cabinetmaker, a trade he learned in Bohemia. He married Agnes Urbaneck and had 7 kids. In 1880, he expanded his cabinet making business to include the making of horn furniture. He crafted some of the most innovative furniture and may have originated the idea of horn furniture. Their youngest son, Albert Friedrich, founded the Buckhorn Saloon. He became the founding member of the first volunteer fire department and later was a charter member of the Number Two Fire Company. He died November 7, 1902.
