Gustav Theissen

After Bettina was abondoned, John James and Gustav Theissen laid out the nearby town of Boerne.
Theissen was a dealer in hides, pelts, and wool on Main Plaza In San Antonio and he was also in partnership with John Dunlop in the wholesale grocery business.

He was one of the charter members of the Casino Association in 1854 and 1859. He helped organize the German-English School and helped erect the first building on S. Alamo St. During the civil war, the firm of Theissen and Deutz formed Heusinger, a dealer of hardware and tools. After the civil war, Theissen advertised as Commision Merchants in the San Antonio Express News of October 16, 1867. During Mayor A. A. Lockwood's second term, Theissen served as City Alderman from January 1, 1858, until January 1, 1859.
