John Fries was born in 1818 in Bavaria and died before 1880. He came to San Antonio in 1847 and trained as an architect builder. He married to Salome Enderle, a native of Germany from Castroville. He partnered with Kampmann to create Kampmann and Fries Building Firm which did architectural designs. He designed and constructed the City Market House in 1858, the Menger Hotel and the James Vance Hotel in 1859 and the Nat Lewis and Tunstall homes. He also helped rebuild the badly damaged Alamo in 1850.

       George Dullnig was the owner of the San Antonio and Gulf Railroad. In 1905 consolidatevd with the Galvestor, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway Company. It was charted on March 31, 1897. It was created to acquire the San Antonio and Gulf Shore Railway Company. It is not still in business today.

       St. Joseph Catholic Church originated from Europe and was built in San Antonio in 1878 to 1896. It was a Catholic church that stated in the 1500's. It existed until 1978 when it was rebuilt. The land was sold around it to Joske's or Riercenter mall for parking. It was the first German speaking Catholic church. It added German Heritage and sense of community.
