       George Kalteyer was born on July 14, 1849 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His mansion at 425 King William Street in the King William Historic District was painstakingly renovated after his death. He came to San Antonio with his parents in 1857, when his father founded the Eagle Drug Store on Military Plaza. The family had moved from New Orleans, to Galveston and to Boerne before settling in San Antonio. Supposedly, Fredrick Kalteyer had opened the first soda-water business in Texas while in Galveston, during the 1830's. George Kalteyers' parents were Fredrick William, and Henrietta Kalteyer. They were from Dillingburg, Grand Duchy Nassau, Germany. They immigrated to San Antonio after moving from New Orleans. George married Johanna Gloetzel of Elderfeldt, Germany, in San Antonio in 1873. When George was old enough, he became a junior partner in his fathers' pharmacy. That is when the name became F. Kalteyer and Son Druggists. George soon went to Germany to study to become a pharmacist. He also worked under the famous Professor R. Fresenius in evaluating cement for the Association of German Cement Manufacturers. He then returned to San Antonio to continue to help his father with the family business. In 1871 he was an incorporator of the Llano Mining Company, and the Alamo Literary Society of San Antonio. That same year, he was appointed state chemist. George Kalteyer became the director of a project, which is now known as the Alamo Cement Company. It is located at what is now the Sunken Garden Theater in Brackenridge Park. Kalteyers' company produces barrels of Alamo cement, which was used in the capitol building in Austin, and the Driskill Hotel, which is car term as and alderman in San Antonio City in Austin as well. Some Contributions made to San Antonio was the Lone Star Brewing Company, which was built in 1883 and partially owned by Kalteyer. After being elected president of the Texas Pharmaceutical Association, he served a four-year term as and alderman in San Antonio City government he returned to Germany and was a director of the San Antonio and Arkansas Pass Railway. In 1892 he incorporated his expanding retail and wholesales drug business into the San Antonio Drug Company, of which he was president. In 1897 he returned to Germany and obtained the DeCamp patent rights and equipment for use of burning powdered coal in rotary kilns in cement manufacturing. He returned to the United States seriously ill and never saw the process after it was put in. He died in a Philadelphia hospital on August 3, 1897.
