RULES
There may be two entries per school on the level: Advantaged. The topics will not be technical and will pertain to daily life. They will be of equal difficulty. Topics will be drawn at the time of the competition. Students may have a maximum of 20 minutes to prepare. No books or dictionaries may be used in preparation. No notes may be used in the speech. Speech time: 3-5 minutes.
Judging will be done according to the following:
1. Analysis and content. Was content relevant to the topic? Must Give supporting reasons for any statements. Tell why. 2. Organization: introduction of the subject, selection of ideas, and conclusion.
3. Voice and diction: voice uses expression. 4. Communication: good communication with poise and without distracting movements. 5. Pronunciation: correctly spoken German.
6. Language style: good grammatical German.
7. The contestant will be scored on a scale of 100 points on the critique sheet. Viel Spass!!
CRITERIA FOR JUDGING
1. ANALYSIS AND CONTENT: The speaker analyzes the topic adequately? The speaker support his/her assertions. (0-20 Pts)
2. ORGANIZATION: The speaker uses an introduction and a conclusion and has ideas clearly organized. (0-20 Pts)
3. LANGUAGE STYLE: Uses German intonation and sentence patterns. Uses transitions so the speech flows in concise sentences. (0-20 Pts)
4. VOICE, DICTION AND PRONOUNCIATION: The speaker's German is correct and understandable? The speaker was audible and easily understood. There was vocal variety - rate, pitch, volume. (0-20 Pts)?
5. COMMUNICATION: The speaker communicates well. He/she was poised and avoided distracting movements, but emphasized his/her points. (0-20 Pts)
