RULES

NEEDLEWORK/DOLL COSTUMES

Two entries per school. May be an individual or a group project. Hooked rugs, embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch, quilting or doll costumes. No knitting. Everything must be related to a German theme, such as state or national German symbols, landscapes, folk traditions, fairy tales, proverbs, etc.

Doll Costumes must be student made folk costumes for dolls. The doll costume must be made for a doll at least 12 inches tall and not over 36 inches tall. Barbie Doll size costumes will not be accepted. There must be a backdrop, no smaller than one piece of poster board, and no larger than three pieces of poster board. These are to contain information about the costume and the place it represents. Please cite the sources of information. Attached to the backdrop should be receipts showing that the cost was not more than $30.00.

The costume will be judged on workmanship, the details, the backdrop presentation and the representation of a traditional costume. The costume may be representative of traditions in: Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Liechtenstein. Entry must have an attached card with the name of the school and the entrant's name. A human size costume may be entered but it must meet all other criteria in this category.

 

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

1.      SUBJECT: Deals with German language or a German-speaking country. (0-20 Pts)

 

 

2. WORKMANSHIP: Neat, balanced, in control of the medium used. (0-20 pts)

 

 

3.      PRESENTATION: Unusual, colorful, eye-catching, finished appropriately,

i.e., framed, backed or matted. (0-20 pts.)

 

 

4. DESIGN: Choice of color. Choice of medium. Balance. Creative. (0-20 (pts)

 

 

 

5. OVERALL EFFECT   (0-20 PTS)
