RULES

There may be three entries per school in this event. The piece to be sung must be by a German-speaking composer, be a recognized work of music, be sung in the German language and be memorized. The performance may be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes in length. If there is no piano available at the contest site, the performer may use a cassette tape or a CD for accompaniment or sing a cappella. Two copies of the piece must be provided for the judges.

Criteria for Judging:

1. PRONUNCIATION: Correct and understandable German. (0-20 pts)

2. TONE: Quality and intonation (0-20 pts)

3. INTERPRETATION: Dynamics and style (0-20 pts)

4. PREPARATION: Memorized (0-20 pts)

5. GENERAL EFFECT: Spirit and interpretation of feelings (0-20 pts)
