Extemporaneous Speaking

Advanced (levels 3 -4 ) and Advantaged(Native)
There may be two entries per school on each level: Level III, Level IV. The topics will not be technical and will pertain to daily life. They will be of equal difficulty. Topics will be drawn at the time of the competition. Students may have a maximum of 10 minutes to prepare. No books or dictionaries may be used in preparation. No notes may be used in the speech. Speech time: Level 3, 1-3 minutes; Level IV, 2-4 min; Advantaged, 3-5 min. Back to top

 

Sight Reading

There may be Two entries per school on each level: Level One, Level two, Level III and Level IV. This category is comprised of students reading prose, which they have not seen before. The student may look at the prose for only 60 seconds before reading it for the judges. Time limit per entry is 2 minutes. Back to top

 

Directed Dialogue

There may be two entries per school on each level: Level one and Level two. The judges will ask questions, which will be on his/her level of understanding. Such as, textbooks on each level, i.e., the "So sagt man das" section in the KOMM MIT series. Judges will look for pronunciation, degree of fluency, knowledge of topic, grammatical corrections.
