Research Papers

Each school may have one entry. It may be a group project. It must be in English.

The Topic must be an original German-Texan culture theme, something not commonly known, such as a person, family, place, building, home, business, area, group, settlement, organization, or church.

The entry must be typed, double-spaced and have a minimum of 700 words and a maximum of 1000 words. Each entry must have internal documentation, footnotes, or endnotes and a bibliography. Follow the rules in the latest MLA Style Sheet.(May be found on the internet)   Be sure to use the latest rules for entering Internet sources.

The entry must be turned into the judges the morning of the contest, no later than 9 a.m. It must be unfolded, with a title page, in a sealed 12" by 9" envelope. On the title page include: Name of author(s), school, address of school, date and title of paper. Keep a copy of the paper as well as copies of any illustrations and/or photos used for illustrations. Only the judges will open the entry . Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.
 

 

 

Scavenger Hunt( Map Hunt)

There may be one team entry per school with each team consisting of at least one and not more than four students. No advantaged/native speakers may be on a team. Not more than one upper level (3-4 year) student may be on a team. Each team may use one dictionary.

Contestants will be given a map of the campus (and/or surrounding area), a set of directions in German and paper for writing answers. The team must check out a route on a map according to written German directions.

Teams will be required to answer questions about objects, places, signs, etc., which can be found on the map. Vocabulary will be kept simple. The team, which finishes the mapwork in 45 minute time limit and answers the most questions in the most grammatically correct German will be declared the winner.

This activity has been modified because of use of cell phones, etc.
