Program:

"Kuess mich Frosch" English subtitles
This prize winning romantic comedy is a modern day version of the classic rendition of the princess and the frog. Although Anna isn't particularly looking for a prince, when her younger brother brings home a frog for her to kiss, she inherits a whole set of unexpected problems. The result is a charming movie that will delight any age group.

"Joyeux Noel" English subtitles
This joint French-German-Belgium production, nominated for Best Foreign Film, tells the story of the spontaneous Christmas truce declared by ordinary French, German, and Scottish troops in the trenches of World War I. For one night, they put the war aside and discover how much they have in common.

"Verliebt in Berlin," English subtitles
This TV serial comedy follows the life of an unsophisticated but good-natured young woman in an incongruous job at an ultra-chic Berlin fashion house. Lisa, who can best be described as a "fish out of water," captivates her audience with her ability to come out on top of difficult situations. Ingenious twists in the plot made this one of the most popular TV series in Germany.

"Jenseits der Stille," English subtitles
Born into a family of two deaf parents, a young girl with a love of music struggles to find her place in the world and share her dreams with her parents. Nominated for Best Foreign Film in 1997, it is the winner of 3 German Film prizes.

"Der Tunnel" English subtitles
A true story from Berlin 1961 about an attempt to dig a tunnel between East and West Berlin. "Flat out the most exciting movie from Germany since DAS BOOT."

"Lola rennt" German subtitles
Set against the gritty urban scenescape of Berlin and a pounding techno soundtrack, RUN LOLA RUN is a inventive existential thriller that explores the life-altering impact of seemingly inconsequential actions. Beautiful, hip, and young, Lola has but 20 minutes to locate a missing bag containing 100,000 Deutsche marks or come up with the money some other way--if she can't, gangsters are going to kill her boyfriend. A race against time, the film presents three separate scenarios, all departing from a single split-second decision Lola makes. Winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival; Best Film, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director at the German Film Awards; 1998 Bambi Award; and the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Film at the Seattle International Film Festival.

"Im Juli" (with a disclaimer permission note) German subtitles
At the beginning of his summer holiday, a somewhat naïve student teacher buys a ring which supposedly has the power to lead him to the woman of his dreams. The story follows the young man through countries and situations which test his determination to make this wish come through. There is one scene which involves the use of mind altering substances that would require parent permission to view. The film has been recognized at the international film festival for best direction and the Deutscher Filmpreis 2001 for best actor.

"Nirgendwo in Afrika" German subtitles.
This Academy Award winner, and Best Foreign Film in 2003 focuses on a Jewish family in Germany which emigrates shortly before the Second World War to Africa. They move to Kenya to start running a farm, but not all members of the family come to terms with their new life. The video gives rare insights into the dynamic changes in lifestyle and values for the Jewish family as they interact with African families in their new home.
