South Texas Chapter

Welcome to the South Texas Chapter AATG
Web Site

Our membership covers the area from Waco in the north to Brownsville in the south on the Border, from Del Rio in the west to Corpus Christi in the east on the Gulf.  This area is about 160,000 square miles. Just a bit larger than Germany. It includes very mountainous areas in the west, the rolling Hill Country, the citrus fruit trees in The Rio Grande Valley, the largest ranch in Texas in Kingsville, and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the new Silicon Valley around Austin.  We would not think of driving it all in one day. Maybe two.

We don't meet very often "officially" but our 95+ members are active in their classrooms, in local foreign language fairs, in the TFLA, in the German-Texan Heritage Society,   in university and college programs, in our Sprachfest and State contests for high school and middle school students, as well as numerous GAPPs and other groups going to German-speaking countries. We are multicultural and we represent one of the most varied areas in the country.

We are proud to have members who are pioneers in the "Outreach" movement bringing university students into elementary and middle schools in Austin and San Antonio.

Our Chapter has produced three Winners of the National AATG Educator of the Year Award, 2004,2005 and 2008 and a student winner of the 2006 AATG Testing Program Trip to Germany. OUR nominee for the 2008 Friend of Education also won.

We are an ever changing and growing Chapter, dedicated to building and maintaining German Programs in Texas, by whatever means!!
