South Texas Chapter of the AATG
September 16, 2006 Meeting

The annual meeting of the South Texas Chapter was held at the University of Austin on Saturday, September 16, 2006 from 8:00 A.M. until 3:30 P.M with approximately 35 members present. AATG  Chapter President, Jennifer Christianson, opened the meeting by encouraging attendees who aren't members of AATG to join. Also, if any members needed to still renew their membership they were reminded to do so. Teachers were reminded that the AATG Poster Contest is still ongoing and that the deadline is September 30, 2006 for enteries.

Jennifer also let the members know that teacher Stefanie Koehler had been involved in a serious riding accident and was presently in ICU at a hospital in San Antonio. Jennifer provided get well cards to be signed by members.

Mary El-Beheri reminded teachers that Sprachfest will celebrate 31 years in existence and the State competition has existed for 25 years.

Daniela Pruß from the Goethe Institute in Chicago was introduced and presented "Spiele im Unterricht."

The Business meeting followed with the election of new officers: President-elect: Rita Abercrombie, Vice President: Nella Spurlin, Secretary: Helen Jahnke. Sandi Mays will remain as treasurer and Mary El-Beheri as web master. Some committees were also formed: Evelyn Saucier: Project Manager and Grant writer and Mimi Parris: Scholarship Committee. Suzy Holland agreed to become the membership chair. Sandi Mays will serve again as Testing Chair for 2007. Sandi then read the treasurer's report.

It was suggested that Evelyn Saucier have someone work with her to help with the project management and grant writing. Also, Leslie Decker volunteered to help Mary El-Beheri with the website.

The chapter received a grant and will have two Dance Workshops in November (dates and places yet to be determined). Members were reminded that Fulbright Scholarships are available. The Goethe Institute in Atlanta does not have a "Fachberater" anymore and the Goethe Institute in Chicago is now helping Texas. The Goethe Institute still offers courses for teachers as well as teacher trainers. There will be an opportunity for teachers for continuing education through the Goethe Institute Chicago on July 21-July 28, 2007 in Caspar, Wyoming. Register through the Goethe website. Only a limited number of spaces are available.

After lunch, Daniela continued the workshop with "Aktuelle Deutsche Musik" and the meeting adjourned at 3:30 P.M.
